security threats against the u.s. consulate in benghazi. petraeus has been married for 37 years to holly petraeus who he met while a cadet at the u.s. naval academy in west point. he took the helm of the cia in september of 2011. in a statement late this afternoon the president thanked petraeus for his service adding, quote, i have the outmost confidence in acting director michael morel and the men and women who work every day to keep our nation safe. going forward, my thoughts and prays are with dave and holly petraeus who have done so much to help military families that their own work. petraeus took every the cia in september of 2011. of course, the political implications of all of this cannot be overlooked. the obama administration was already under intense scrutiny following the benghazi attack and possible leaks of intelligence information from operations in yemen. new questions now likely are to surface whether or not petraeus' affair may have compromised his position over the last years. >> there is also the issue of the fiscal cliff. both president obama and house speake

on the rear of her house in mckinley street northwest. the man used his fist to punch the woman in her face and head. he then made off with an apple computer. today's victim was found outside of her front door by the local mailman. she's been hospitalized. the police made a public plea for any other witnesses in the neighborhood to come forward. that may have happened already. the neighborhood listserv said the suspicious man was spotted in another nearby backyard earlier this week. and the spotters quickly snapped photos and shared those photos with police. very late this afternoon, d.c. police announced the arrest of 18-year-old tyran mcel wrath of southeast d.c. and he's in custody. he's charged with first-degree burglary and the victim remains in the hospital but she's expected to be released soon and is expected to recover from the beating. >>> a nor'easter suddenly discovering -- and he's more from sharon from monmoth county, new jersey. >> reporter: i'm in an evacuated area along the new jersey shore and it's just over my shoulder here and ts is another condemned home. we have been a

for joining us tonight. i'm brian bolter. >> i'm shawn yancy. we begin with a teen-ager arrested for a brutal attack and robbery of an 81-year-old woman inside her northwest d.c. home. >> the victim is still recovering in the hospital. fox 5's maureen umeh working this one tonight now. >> neighbors say there has been an uptick in crime in the area lately but nothing as brutal as the random attack on the elderly woman. tonight police continue to patrol the area as a precaution. the burglary and beating happened wednesday afternoon inside this house surrounded by bamboo on mckinley street. an 81-year-old woman lives here alone. neighbors say she's legally blind and hard of hearing. sometime before 1:00 police say a masked burglar broke into the house through a back window. they say he punched the victim in the face and head, then took an apple computer. minutes later a mailman discovered the woman beaten and confused outside her front door. >> the person that did this is a coward. the woman is 81 years old. that's enough said. she's 81 and someone assaulted her in her own home. so it's a heinou
